#Ekotomy! EkoArt for a noble cause!
Omenaa Mensah, the founder and president of the Omenaa Foundation, has joined forces with Hanna Zdanowska, the President of the City of Łódź, to initiate the #Ekotomy campaign. The main objective of this eco-challenge is to promote environmentally friendly habits by highlighting everyday activities that benefit the environment and our planet.
The organisers of #Ekotomy encourage internet users to share their eco-friendly practices in the form of posts or short videos on Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok. Furthermore, for every use of the hashtag #ekotomy online, one zloty will be donated to the Wild Animal Rehabilitation Center in Łagiewniki.
“The primary inspiration for launching eco-projects within my foundations came from visiting the largest e-waste dump in West Africa, Agbogbloshie, situated on the outskirts of Accra, the capital of Ghana. This site, spanning over two hectares, is the most polluted place on Earth. The area is riddled with numerous toxic substances, with soil concentrations exceeding acceptable levels by a hundredfold. Agbogbloshie is home and a workplace for thousands of people, including children,” explains Omenaa Mensah, entrepreneur and president of both the Omenaa Foundation and OmenaArt Foundation.
“Thankfully, there are individuals in Ghana dedicated to combating environmental pollution. I personally know Patrick, an artist who generously donated his work—crafted from discarded flip-flops collected on beaches—to the OmenaArt Foundation. It’s truly unique! For the first time in Poland, this artwork will be showcased during the Grand Charity Auction exhibition, commencing on May 10 in Warsaw, at the Wilanów Palace Orangery,” Omenaa Mensah adds.
The goal of the campaign is to reach 10,000 #ekotomy hashtags generated by the participants. As a result, 10,000 PLN will be donated to the Wild Animal Rehabilitation Center in Łagiewniki, which provides care for animals frequently harmed through interactions with humans.
“Łódź recognizes the significance of addressing climate change. As a city built by its people, each of us can contribute to a greener, healthier future. We must acknowledge that the resources we use daily are finite—let us respect and conserve them while sharing positive examples online via videos or photos tagged #ekotomy. May the challenges we embrace become environmentally-friendly habits. Let’s not forget that each hashtag contributes 1 zloty to the Wild Animal Rehabilitation Center in Łagiewniki,” says Hanna Zdanowska, President of the City of Łódź.
The online eco-challenge marks the first phase of the #Ekotomy project – Eco-art for a noble cause. We also encourage the youngest beneficiaries of the Omenaa Foundation, children from Łódź orphanages, to adopt eco-friendly habits. In collaboration with students from the Academy of Fine Arts in Lodz, they will develop a decalogue of eco-pronciples and create original artwork using recycled materials. Through the Paint My World! contest, the winning project and its corresponding orphanage will receive a renovation of a communal area within the facility, valued at 40,000 PLN. The two runner-up orphanages will each be awarded 20,000 PLN for renovation efforts.
Additionally, the campaign will contribute an extra 80,000 PLN toward refurbishing these institutions.
