24 Mar Sports weekend with Pops Mensah-Bonsu
Last weekend, we spent an amazing sports-filled time with our friend, Pops Mensah-Bonsu, the ambassador of the Kids Haven Sport & Art Complex.
Our students had been preparing for the guest’s visit since the morning, but they had no idea who this mysterious person would be. As we waited for his arrival, excitement filled the air as the children eagerly tried to guess who would be visiting us that day.

While waiting for the mysterious guest
When Pops appeared at the school gate, all the children burst into joyful laughter. Our guest greeted each of our students and invited them to join a basketball session together.

Welcoming the guest
At the beginning of the session, we discussed how to properly hold the ball. Then, our students started practicing free throws under the watchful eye of the former NBA player.
After our talented students completed their free throws, Pops moved on to explaining the next drills. He demonstrated how to position oneself precisely with the ball and how to properly use the wrist.
Following a brief demonstration and training, our youth participated in another free throw competition. This time, Pops paid special attention to their shooting technique.

The students were highly engaged in the session. They eagerly listened to the advice of their instructor, who boasts an impressive sports portfolio. Throughout the entire meeting, we experienced a positive atmosphere that spread to all CPC staff members.

Practical exercises
At the end of the session, Pops organized a free throw competition, but this time for the Omenaa Foundation team and the teaching staff. Sharon, our teacher, defended the honor of Kids Haven School, but from that moment on, the biggest basketball talent within the OF team was revealed.

After the session, we took Pops to the construction site of the Kids Haven Sport & Art Complex to discuss the progress of the work. After the visit, we managed to conduct a short interview with him.

Pops Mensah Bonsu: “I feel immense joy being able to visit Kids Haven School once again. The last time I was here was in October last year, and since then, I have formed a special bond with the children here. I see a part of myself in them – their determination, strength, and dreams resonate deeply with me.
I not only want to support them on their journey but also actively invest in their future so they can build lives full of opportunities and security. What Omenaa Foundation is doing is truly extraordinary. When I first spoke with Omenaa about the school and the conditions these children used to live in, it moved me profoundly. Together, we are creating something exceptional – something that can genuinely change their fate.
That’s why providing them with a strong foundation for further growth is my priority. I feel immense pride and gratitude to be part of this mission.”
