Sports weekend with Pops Mensah-Bonsu

This past weekend was spent in the excellent sporting company of our friend Pops Mensah-Bonsu, ambassador of Kids Haven Sport & Art Complex.

Our wards had been preparing for the guest's visit since the morning, but they did not know who this mysterious person would be. In anticipation of his arrival we were accompanied by the excitement of the children, who tried to guess who would visit us that day.

In anticipation of a mystery guest

When Pops appeared at the school gate all the children burst into joyful laughter. Our guest greeted each of our students and invited them to join him in a basketball activity.

Greeting the guest

At the beginning of the class we discussed how to hold the ball properly. Then our students began to make free throws under the watchful eye of a former NBA basketball player. After our talented charges made their free throws, Popsu proceeded to describe the next tasks. He showed how to position himself precisely with the ball and how to use the wrist correctly. After a short demonstration and training, our youngsters again took part in the free throw competition. This time Popsu paid special attention to the technique of the shots.

The students were very engaged in the class. They eagerly listened to the guidance of their teacher, who boasts an impressive sports portfolio. Throughout the meeting we were able to experience a positive atmosphere, which was shared by all CPC staff.

Practical exercises

At the end of the class, Pops planned a free throw contest, but for Team Omenaa Foundation and the teaching staff. Kids Haven School's honor was defended by Sharon, our teacher, but from then on the greatest basketball talent among Team OF.

After class, we took Pops to the Kids Haven Sport & Art Complex construction site to discuss the progress of the work with him. After the visit we were able to conduct with him, a short interview.

Pops Mensah Bonsu - "I feel great joy to visit Kids Haven School again. The last time I was here was last October, and since then I have formed a special bond with the children here. I see a part of myself in them - their determination, strength and dreams are extremely close to my heart.

I want not only to support them on their journey, but also to actively invest in their future so they can build a life of opportunity and security. What Omenaa Foundation is doing is something extraordinary. When I first spoke to Omenaa about the school and the conditions in which these children previously lived, it moved me to the core. Together we are creating something special - something that can make a real difference in their fate.

Therefore, providing them with a solid foundation for further development is a priority for me. I feel great pride and gratitude to be part of this mission."
