21 Aug Goodness in a Backpack: Auchan, the Omenaa Foundation, and the Donateo Foundation Launch a Joint Campaign for Children from Orphanages
From August 21 to September 30, 2025, a unique charitable initiative will take place in all Auchan stores across Poland. Thanks to this campaign, every customer can support children and youth from orphanages supported by the Omenaa Foundation. How can you help? Just one click during card payment is enough to donate 2 PLN for school supplies and other needs of the foundation’s beneficiaries. The campaign is run in partnership with the Donateo Foundation.
More and more children in Poland are growing up outside of their biological families—in foster families, orphanages, and care facilities. According to 2024 data from the Central Statistical Office, the number of children in foster care has exceeded 77,000 and continues to grow. This highlights the essential role both foster families and care institutions play in supporting children’s development and sense of security every day.
The campaign by the Omenaa Foundation and Auchan has been designed to make it quick and easy for customers to get involved—without any additional formalities. During card payment, a message will appear on the terminal screen asking: “Would you like to make a donation?” Just select “YES,” and the system will charge an extra 2 PLN as a separate transaction, independent of the purchase total. Confirmation of the microdonation will be shown on a non-fiscal receipt. It’s a small gesture that, multiplied by thousands of donors, can make a real difference in the lives of children in care facilities across the country.
“Our goal is not only to provide school supplies but, most importantly, to restore children’s sense of safety and agency,” says Agnieszka Mazur, General Manager. “Every microdonation sends the message: ‘You matter, you are not alone.’ Thanks to our collaboration with Auchan, we can engage thousands of customers in meaningful change—small on the individual level, but enormous on a societal scale,” she adds.
Auchan supports children and nurtures a culture of everyday giving
For Auchan, this is another social initiative in partnership with the Donateo Foundation, aligned with its broader strategy of supporting local communities and building responsible business practices. Collaboration with the Omenaa Foundation enables help to reach where it’s most urgently needed—children who often lack close family support and must navigate new life stages without emotional or material assistance.
“We are proud to combine our business with helping those in need through projects that bring real change. Thousands of customers visit our stores every day. Now each of them can become part of this change—with just one click,” emphasizes Magdalena Bobko, CSR Director at Auchan.
The great power of small gestures
According to data from the Donateo Foundation, many Poles are familiar with the idea of microdonations, and nearly half use this form of giving. Such initiatives are growing in popularity because they are quick, easy to understand, and accessible to everyone—regardless of financial situation.
This initiative isn’t about large sums but about simplicity and scale. Even 2 PLN, if donated by thousands of people each day, can create a powerful support fund—for those who cannot fight for it themselves.
“Supporting the beneficiaries of the Omenaa Foundation fits perfectly with our core mission,” says Anna Płatek, Board Member of the Donateo Foundation. “We strive to be present wherever help is most needed, especially for the most vulnerable—children and youth from orphanages. Their future often depends on a helping hand at a crucial time in life: childhood and adolescence. Let’s work together to make the back-to-school season joyful and comfortable for these children,” she adds.
Children need more than just a roof over their heads
Children growing up in orphanages often face insecurity, loneliness, and limited access to education, personal development, and positive role models. A school starter kit is more than just notebooks and pens—it’s a symbol of equality, dignity, and a fresh start.
That’s why the Omenaa Foundation has been actively supporting care facilities in Poland for years. The foundation not only finances school supplies and educational activities but also promotes emotional, psychological, and professional development for children who had to become independent far too early.
Remember: You can help. All it takes is one click!
